The first few years of a child’s life are a particularly sensitive period in the process of development. Yet many children face various stressors during these years that can impair their healthy development. Early identification and proactive developmental programs that address these stressors is a critical step in reducing the risk of poor outcomes.
Studies about the short- and long-term benefits of early developmental programs, and the features that are associated with more-effective programs, show that early developmental programs demonstrate significant and often sizable benefits in one or more of:
- cognition and academic achievement
- behavioral and emotional competencies
- educational progression and attainment
- child maltreatment and health
Key findings of these studies were that early childhood developmental programs with better-trained caregivers and smaller child-to-staff ratios appear to offer more favorable results. In some cases, the favorable impacts were observed through adolescence into adulthood.
At Lilybug Learning your child will have their special needs supported with special care. In collaboration with parents and support staff an individual strategy that to support your child in a structured and consistent manner is created within the framework of the curriculum for all students. These supports may be in the form of learning activities, or other structured experiences, that affect a child directly or through training parents. A life skills curriculum approach blends academic, daily living and personal/social skills into integrated lessons designed to help students learn to function independently in society.
Lilybug Learning’s primary caregiver, Alexandria, is educated in special education and has worked with students of various special needs. She also has a personal interest in these students as the primary caregiver of a close family member with special needs.
